The modular server is designed from the ground-up as a simple, highly flexible, "business-in-a-box" solution. All components are housed within a 6U chassis with options to scale the system with additional components.

Chassis supports up to 14 x 2.5" SAS HDD (or 6 x 3.5" SAS/SATA HDD) in a shared storage bay. the base configuration includes 2 of 4 power supplies, storage controller, I/O Ethernet switch and remote management module. the chassis supports up to 6 x Compute Modules.

Compute Module MSF5520VIR provides the processing and I/O power of the Modular Server with support  for up to two Intel Xeon processors. The chassis can deploy up to six modules with each module being entirely diskless connecting to the virtualised shared storage array via the storage controller. Each compute module has two gigabit ethernet ports with an an option to increase to four ports via a mezzanine card. Twelve DIMM slots provide memory capability for virtualisation.

Storage Control Module  is included in the base chassis with the option to add a second for redundancy. The module virtualises the integrated shared storage through a SAN fabric that connects the compute modules to the 14 x 2.5" SAS drives (or 6 x 3.5" drives). Expansion to an external RAID array is offered via a mini x4 external SAS port. Intuitive SAN storage management is incorporated in the control GUI.

Gigabit Ethernet Switch Module provides integrated networking and switch functions with ten external full duplex ports and twelve internal full duplex ports connecting to the six compute modules. All ports are Gigabit Ethernet. The switch module is part of the base chassis with the option to add a 2nd module to provide redundancy or connect to the additional two GbE ports available via the add-on mezzanine module on each compute module. 

Intel® Server Management Module provides a single portal virtual presence GUI to control the entire system. it allows in-band and out-of-band management of the compute modules, shared storage array and switch.
The highly integrated management console allows the user to configure all aspects of the Modular Server from a single interface and the full Remote KVM over IP allows all Compute Modules to be controlled concurrently. Remote Media allows easy remote installs from anywhere and intuitive navigation allows configuration of all components of the platform. 
Hardware monitoring provides real time alerts and status of all system components.
